Cherry Trees

string quartet (2012, revised 2015)

Tamerin Busia commissioned this string quartet for performance during the 2012 Fashion on the Square runway show in San Francisco. I wanted to evoke the swirling of the falling cherry blossoms and liveliness of people gathered admire their beauty and enjoy the season with playful rhythms and imitative falling patterns. While this is a stand-alone work, I do plan to write two or three more three-themed companion pieces that can be performed with it: “Silver Birch” and “Live Oak”.
