LIBERTY

SATB (2002)

Commissioned by a law firm in New York City, Liberty was composed a few months after September 11, 2001. It was written for a performance by the Williams College Elizabethans dedicated to the memory of colleagues of the firm who perished in the attacks. The text is from the opening of the Emma Lazurus poem “The New Colossus”, and serves to remind us of the noble ambitions which tie us together as a nation.
